Tea Review: Ambangulu (Metropolitan Tea Company)

Ambangulu-BP1
Metropolitan Tea Company
Type:  Black (CTC)
Origin:  Tanzania, Usambara
Product Description:  Full bodied tea with good flavor. A rich malty thickness mellow that is mellow and satisfying and a bright and coppery cup. Ambangulu is a fairly small estate in terms of tea plantations but extremely well managed. This has resulted in high demand for this tea on the world tea trading scene by specialty tea wholesalers as well as the bazaar in Pakistan.

Temperature: 208° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 3 minutes

The dry leaves have a savory aroma that reminds me of wheat with a dash of brown sugar.

The coppery-red infusion has an aroma of honey and apricots.  The taste is tangy and mildy astringent with a dry, lightly fruity finish.

The mildness of this tea was a surprise and I found that it rounded out nicely with the addition of milk.  When served in a clear glass, the liquor takes on an attractive cranberry red color.

This was tea was provided as part of a workshop.
