Tea Review: Makaibari Estate Darjeeling 2nd Flush (Perennial Tea Room)

Advent Tea Calendar Day 20

Makaibari Estate Darjeeling 2nd Flush (2012)
Perennial Tea Room
Type: Black
Origin: Makaibari Estate, Darjeeling, India
Product Description: 2nd flush from 2013 - Nice light astringency - smooth with a lovely sweet aftertaste. Quite enjoyable.

Temperature: 208° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 3 minutes

The dry leaves have a sweet and fruity muscat grape aroma.

The liquor is dark amber with floral notes and hint of muscatel in the aroma and flavor. It is moderately light in astringency with a long, velvet finish.

As you may have noticed, my sample is from the 2012 2nd Flush, rather than the 2013 2nd Flush that is currently available. I really appreciated the heady aroma of the dry leaves and was expecting something similar in the cup. While it was enjoyable, I believe a slightly lower steeping time would bring out more character in the flavor and aroma. There's a lot of potential in these leaves.

This tea was purchased by me.
