Tea Review: Malawi Gold (Cured Leaves Tea)

Malawi Gold
Type: Black
Origin: Malawi
Product Description:
What happens when Malawi gold leaves are carefully hand-rolled to perfection? One sip of this light-bodied black tea says it all. The subtly sweet fragrance of orange honey blossoms dipped in dark chocolate invites you to pour yourself some satisfaction, while an addictively soft, smooth liquor keeps you coming back for more. Psst...Look a little closer, and you may notice the dry leaves even evoke the shape of the horn of the rare nyala antelope. Talk about tea that transports you!
Temperature: 208° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 3-5 minutes

The dry leaves have an aroma of dried fruit, oats, and brown bread.

The copper red infusion has a fruity aroma with notes that remind me of papaya and autumn leaves.  The taste has fruit and yam-like notes with low astringency.

This is a very tasty and user friendly tea. I had great results by steeping for 3 minutes as well as by adding more leaf and increasing the steeping time, with fruity notes throughout and very little astringency.  While the fullest flavor was in the first infusion, this tea held up nicely throughout two additional infusions.

This tea was purchased on my behalf at the 2023 Northwest Tea Festival.
