La Romanza

La Romanza closed in August 2014.

Today I met with a friend for Afternoon Tea at La Romanza, an Italian Bistro owned and operated by the Pellegrini family in West Seattle.  It's located on California Avenue near Oregon Street and is in good company, surrounded by charming boutiques to visit before or after your meal.

Just inside the entrance to La Romanza is a beautifully decorated bar with a collection of teas displayed along the back.

The tea menu offers a large selection of teas, most of which are blended in-house by the owner.  My friend and I had both been looking over their online tea menu and still had difficulty narrowing down our choices when it was time to order.  Extra kudos goes to the hostess who was kind enough to bring us samples of the teas, though I suspect she knew we would want to try even more of their teas, which would require future visits.  Well played.

The Afternoon Tea sweets and savories were delicious and, while I do enjoy traditional fare, the Italian variation is a welcome change.  For lighter appetites and affordability, La Romanza offers the option of sharing the tea service for a small fee.  We ordered our tea service separately and it was very (very) filling.

My choice of tea this afternoon, after much (too much) deliberation was the Earl Grey Brulee.  It has the traditional bergamot flavor with the addition of vanilla and cinnamon.  It was quite enjoyable with and without milk.

While we arrived before the lunch rush, it did become quite busy.  I do recommend making reservations to ensure your place for tea at this fine Italian bistro.  Tins of their teas are also available for sale.
