Tea Review: Formosa Gunpowder (Metropolitan Tea Company)

Formosa Gunpowder
Metropolitan Tea Company
Type:  Green
Origin:  Taiwan, Tungting Province
Product Description:  Legend has it that the name Gunpowder was given by a young English clerk who thought the tiny rolled green balls looked like gunpowder. The tea leaves are specially selected for quality, size and style. They are then rolled into tight nuggets. Gunpowder tea keeps a lot longer than other green teas and is favored because of this characteristic. A green tea with surprising body and captivating green tea taste.

Temperature: 185° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 3 minutes

The dry leaves have an aroma of smoky tobacco.

The infusion is dark golden with a smoky tobacco aroma and a smoky, mildly astringent taste.

I found the flavor quite mild in comparison to the heavy aroma which remained bold through multiple steepings.

This was tea was provided as part of a workshop.
