Tea Review: 1907 Blend (The Fairmont/Metropolitan Tea Company)

Advent Tea Calendar Day 1
1907 Blend
The Fairmont Store
Type:  Flavored Black
Origin:  China, Sri Lanka, India
Product Description:  In celebration of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Centennial Anniversary, this unique blend is a luxury black tea with hints of oak cask and a dusting of delicate citrus.

Temperature:  208° F
Amount:  3 grams
Steeping Time:  3 minutes

The dry leaves have a woody, citrus aroma.

The infusion has a bright red-orange color with a warm citrus aroma.  The flavor is woody, almost smoky, with just a hint of citrus and has a long, dry finish.

This tea held up well through a second infusion, keeping much of its vibrant color and taking on an aroma of warm orange preserves.  It is mildly astringent and quite enjoyable with or without milk.  From my first encounter with this tea in a tea room, I found that it also goes very well with the sweets and savories of an Afternoon Tea.

If you are interested in purchasing the 1907 Blend, you may need to contact your nearest Fairmont Hotel.  The Fairmont Store has many of their signature teas, but this particular blend does not appear to be available online.  I purchased my loose leaf tin at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle, where it was also available for purchase in tea bags.

This tea was purchased by me.
