Kabuki Academy performed at Aki Matsuri 2014 on September 6th in Bellevue, Washington. Aki Matsuri is an annual two-day Autumn festival celebrating Japanese heritage and culture.
Kabuki Academy's performance began with Futari Harusame (Spring Rain Duet), performed by Akina and Yumeka.
A segment from Fuji Musume (Wisteria Maiden) was performed by myself, accompanied by live music performed by Kabuki Academy. This dance tells the story of a wisteria spirit in the form of a young woman who falls in love with a man and attempts to win his heart.
Gion Kouta (Ballad of Gion) was performed by Hanaka. The dance features a young maiko describing the beauty of Kyoto and the famous geisha district of Gion.
The final dance was Momiji no Hashi (Maple Bridge), a popular Autumn dance performed by Hanaka, Yumeka, and Akina.
Thanks to the members of Kabuki Academy and to everyone who helped onstage and offstage. It was an honor to perform with you!
Additional thanks to Heather Jackson for sharing her photography.
