Chocolatier Inamura Shozo

Chocolatier Inamura Shozo in Yanaka closed August 2019.

Chocolatier Inamura Shozo is a boutique branch of Pâtissier Inamura Shozo and is located just two minutes walk from Nippori Station.  Walk toward Yanaka-Ginza shopping street, take a left at 7-11 and you'll find the shop just one block away.

Chef Inamura Shozo trained in Japan and Switzerland and has won awards in the SIGEP in Italy and Charles Proust Competition in France.  His head office patisserie opened in Ueno in 2000 followed by the 2008 opening of Chocolatier Inamura Shozo in Yanaka.

The cafe decor is modern and clean and with floor-to-ceiling glass walls on two sides providing a beautiful view of the tree-filled Yanaka neighborhood from any seat in the room.

While photos of the decadent confections on display were not permitted, the official menu has photos of the same great items.  In addition to chocolates and pastries, the cafe offers hot and cold tea and coffee, ice cream, and granitas.

To celebrate a successful first day in Tokyo, I stopped in to order an Iced Earl Grey Tea which was served unsweetened with cream and simple syrup on the side.

Service at Chocolatier Inamura Shozo is courteous and prompt and customers are escorted to the door with a thanks and a bow as they leave.

Before leaving, I picked out a matcha ganache-filled chocolate.  The decorative matcha dusting got smudged in transit, but the flavor was fantasic.
