Japanese Tea Cafe Yamajin

Japanese Tea Cafe Yamajin (和束茶屋山甚) is located in central Wazuka, an hour by train from Kyoto and just steps away from the site of the annual Chagenkyo Matsuri and Teatopia Festival.  The cafe is popular among the locals and with cyclists who pass through regularly.

Inside the shop, you'll find a nice selection of Wazuka-grown teas available for purchase. Stay for tea and dessert and you'll find seating inside the shop, outside on the terrace, and in the garden.

I visited Yamajin while attending Chagenkyo Matsuri and after spending much of the day sampling green tea, I was in the mood for something a little different.  Yamajin's Tokujo Genmaicha was just what I needed.

I also treated myself to Yamajin's Hojicha Jelly, topped with sweet azuki beans and matcha ice cream.  This might seem like an unusual combination, but it's an award winner for good reason.
