Tea Review: Tougenkyou (Cha Cha no Ma)

Advent Tea Calendar Day 2

Tougenkyou
Cha Cha no Ma/茶茶の間
Type: Green
Origin: Japan, Shizuoka
Product Description: Available in Japanese.

Temperature: 175° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 2 minutes

The dry leaves have a fresh green aroma with fragrant woody notes and a hint of flowers.

The infusion is clear and light green with a sweet, buttery, green aroma. The taste is green and mildly astringent, nutty and savory with umami, with a hint of peaches and a long refreshing green finish.

Tougenkyou is made from new leaves hand-picked from a new tea plant this year.  Throughout three infusions, the liquor it produced was bright and clear with no cloudiness. The fresh green flavor seemed to sharpen with each subsequent infusion and the tea began to develop a mouthwatering finish. With no loss in flavor and only a mild change in character, I would expect to get several more excellent infusions from this tea.
