Tea Review: Hatsukoi - First Love Organic Oolong (Yunomi/Tarui Tea Farm)

Hatsukoi - First Love Organic Oolong
Tarui Tea Farm/Yunomi
Type: Oolong
Origin: Japan, Shizuoka Prefecture, Nearaicho
Product Description: Created from a tea plant cultivar so rare it is known only by it's registration number 7132, artisanal tea farmer Takayuki Tarui's oolong tea is cultivated pesticide free and without synthetic fertilizers. It is harvested in the last two weeks of June and "fermented" into a fresh, simple oolong tea reminiscent of your first love.

Temperature: 195° F
Amount: 4 grams
Steeping Time: 1 minute

The dry leaves have an aroma of sweet oats and flowers.

The orange amber infusion has an aroma that is sweet and fruity, reminding me of persimmons, with a hint of honey.  The taste is sweet and lightly tangy with a long, sweet, fruity finish.

While the best flavor come out in the first infusion, this oolong is still enjoyable throughout two more infusions.  The results seemed to be ideal when following the suggested steeping time of one minute as a longer steep tended to be too astringent and less nuanced.

This tea was provided as a free sample without guarantee of a review.
