Tea Review: Fukamushi Kakegawa-cha (Akiha Chaen & Maruhori Seicha)

Fukamushi Kakegawa-cha/深蒸し掛川茶
Akiha Chaen/あきは茶園 & Maruhori Seicha/丸堀製茶
Type: Green
Origin: Japan, Shizuoka Prefecture, Kakegawa
Product Description: Not available in English.

Temperature: 160° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 1-1.5 minutes

The dry leaf aroma is nutty with mineral and light nori notes.

The boldly green infusion is slightly opaque with a sweet green and nutty aroma and taste with a refreshing green finish.

While mild astringency did develop after the first infusion, it didn't detract from the sweetness and fresh spring-green taste.  As with most deep-steamed teas, the second infusion was stronger and more opaque, so reducing the steeping time from 1.5 minutes to 1 minute worked nicely to prevent the astringency from becoming overwhelmingly bold.  After the second infusion, adding a half or full minute will give you flavorful results for several more infusions.

This tea was provided as a free sample without guarantee of a review.
