Tea Review: Tanegashima Kuritawase Ohashiri (Yunomi/Cha no Ikedaya)

Tanegashima Kuritawase Ohashiri
Cha no Ikedaya/Yunomi
Type: Green
Origin: Japan, Kagoshima Prefecture, Tanegashima
Product Description: The Kuriwatase cultivar from Tanegashima, a small island south of Japan's main islands, is quite a rare specimen. This extra early harvested leaf was steamed long as a fukamushi, to create a deep green color with a light sweetness.

Temperature: 140° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 2 minutes

The dry leaves have an aroma that is sweet and nutty with a slight medicinal herbal note that I couldn't identify.

The golden green infusion has a light and buttery aroma with a sweet and savory green taste, almost no astringency, and a sweet finish.

While this tea has aged, which may have affected the color of the liquor, the flavor was rich and thoroughly enjoyable.  It would be great to compare this with a sample of the freshly harvested tea.  Unfortunately, Yunomi does not carry this tea at the time of this review.

This tea was provided as a free sample without guarantee of a review.
