Tea Review: Hong Yun Dang Tou Year of the Rooster Shou Puerh (Zuo Wang Tea)

Hong Yun Dang Tou/紅运当头 Year of the Rooster Shou Puerh 2017
Zuo Wang Tea
Type: Puerh
Origin: China, Yunnan Province, Lincang, Mengku
Product Description:
The original Sheng Puerh leaf quality used to make 紅运当头 (Hong Yun Dang Tou) is very high; the leaves come from ~200 year old trees in Mengku, Lincang. The fermentation process was done perfectly, and even 6 months after this tea was pressed into a cake it was very drinkable with minimal off-taste. The tea has an amazingly sweet, earthy flavor. We have found this tea to be pleasantly moving, warming up the stomach and limbs quickly; it is quite relaxing and comfortable to drink.
Temperature: 208° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 3 minutes

The dry leaves have an aroma of loamy earth, moss, and tree bark.

The liquor is dark, opaque and reddish-brown with an aroma of chocolate, moss, and earth.  The taste is mellow, smooth, and rich with earthy notes.

This was pleasantly smooth with a richness that carried into the finish along with a warming sensation.  Following the first infusion, the color darkened considerably before becoming clearer by the third infusion while the taste continued to develop, becoming more earthy.

This tea was purchased by me.
