The dark red infusion has a savory, roasty, and almost smoky aroma with notes of nut shell and fire-seared wood. The taste has notes of roasted nuts, nut shell, and fire roasted vegetables with a long, roasty finish.
This oolong really shines when prepared gongfu-style, using higher temperature water, a smaller brewing vessel, and shorter steeping times. It also does nicely when prepared western-style with a steeping time of 5 or more minutes. The first infusion had the most complexity, though the second infusion was also quite enjoyable.
