Chagashi of the Week: Yuugure

Students and faculty of East-West Chanoyu Center are currently taking a break from lessons for the month of September and Chagashi of the Week has also been on temporary hiatus.  We'll return to lessons in time with the cooler autumn temperatures, looking forward to enjoying a warm bowl of matcha and a seasonal sweet.

The final chagashi for the last tea lesson of summer was Yuugure (Dusk).  It has a simple appearance, but sunlight really makes it glow and it appears to magnify the wood grain of the tray.  The flavor reminded me a little of coffee with a touch of caramel.  Delicious!
