Tea Review: Honeybush (Metropolitan Tea Company)

Honeybush
Metropolitan Tea Company
Type:  Herbal
Origin:  South Africa, Cederberg
Product Description:  Refreshing and cleansing with hints of honey. The finish is reminiscent of light Madagascar pepper. Honeybush tea is caffeine free, high in antioxidants, and has a wonderfully sweet, very slightly astringent flavor with overtones of honey - the overall flavor is very unique and has been compared to hot apricot jam or a dried fruit mix. When brewing the tea, try adding a spoonful of honey to the cup to help open this delicate honey-like character. Although Honeybush is traditionally enjoyed piping hot, over ice it makes an incredible summertime refresher. Either way, this is definitely one of our more interesting tea offerings.

Temperature: 208° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 3 minutes

The dry leaves have an aroma of honey and dried fruit.

The infusion is coppery red with an aroma of warm dried fruit or preserves and a hint of honey.  The flavor is a little fruity with a slightly medicinal sharpness.

This was my first experience with Honeybush and I really appreciated the bold flavor and aroma.  It continued to produce good results through multiple steepings, while it became more mellow.  The color of the liquor fades significantly after the first two steepings.

This was tea was provided as part of a workshop.
