Tea Review: Gyokuro Sencha Nagomiyado Towa Blend (Ja Yamashiro)

Gyokuro & Sencha Nagomiyado Towa Blend
Ja Yamashiro
Type: Green
Origin: Japan, Kyoto Province, Uji
Product Description: Not available.

Temperature: 175° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 2 minutes

The aroma of the dry leaves is is nutty and green, like freshly cut grass, with light marine notes.

The infusion is green and gold with a savory aroma of macadamia nuts and freshly cut grass.

The taste is crisp green with sweet/savory umami and moderate astringency.

This is a sample of the tea provided to guests at Nagomiyado Towa in Kyoto.  It is a house blend, specifically made for this ryokan and leans more heavily toward gyokuro than sencha, judging by the color, flavor, and aroma.  I steeped it at a temperature more suitable for sencha where the lower temperature for gyokuro would have been ideal.  It's a pleasant blend and definitely best suited for use in a teapot with a fine mesh filter due to the fine cut of the leaves.
