Smith Teamaker

The NW Tasting Room closed in 2020, making the SE Washington St. location the primary retail store and tea room.

Steven Smith, co-founder of Stash Tea and founder of Tazo, re-entered the tea world after a brief hiatus with the opening of Smith Teamaker in Portland, Oregon in 2009.  The tea room is in a beautiful brick building, an unexpected oasis in the midst of an industrial area, located on NW Thurman Street between NW 16th & 17th Avenues.

All Smith Teamaker teas and tisanes are available in tea bags or loose leaf in quantities of  2 or 4 ounces.  You'll even find some of their teas bottled!

On display are a variety of tea making supplies from classic to modern design, with functions that range from simple to complex.

The tea room offers table and tea bar seating.  Though the room isn't large and there were quite a few customers during my visit, it never felt crowded.

Just beyond the tea bar is a window, offering a unique view into the tea manufacturing process.

For this first visit, I ordered the Mao Feng Shui which was steeped to perfection and served with a delicious almond cookie on the side.

The staff at Smith Teamaker are friendly and knowledgeable and the teas are fantastic.  It's well worth a visit!
