Tea Review: Shimacha Oku Midori (Asakichi Cha Gyou)

Shimacha Oku Midori
朝吉茶行 (Asakichi Cha Gyou)
Type: Green
Origin: Japan, Okinawa
Product Description:  Not available.

Temperature: 175° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 3 minutes

The dry leaves have an aroma of green grass, pepper, and almonds.

The infusion is bright golden green with a grassy, lightly nutty aroma and a mellow green flavor.

This tea has only mild astringency, possibly due to the stems blended in with the leaves.  Steeping at 185° F brought out a stronger aroma and flavor while the astringency remains low and the liquor develops a bold golden color.  I believe this would have even better results with a longer steeping time.

Unfortunately, Asakichi Cha Gyou is no longer in business.
