Tea Review: Sencha (Marumo Mori Shouten)

Sencha
Marumo Mori Shouten (マルモ森商店)
Type:  Green
Origin:  Japan, Shizuoka
Product Description:  Not provided.

Temperature: 175° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 2 minutes

The dry leaves have a fresh-cut green and nutty aroma.

The infusion is green-yellow with a sharp green and nutty aroma.  The taste is mildly astringent, grassy green, and nutty with a long green finish.

This tea really popped during a second, shorter infusion which produced a vivid, opaque green liquor and a sharper green taste with more astringency.  A third infusion came out more like the first in color with slightly mellower aroma and flavor.  While the results were good, I would be interested in trying a fresh sample from a recent harvest for comparison.

This was a gift tea.  The unopened packet only had the manufacturer label and most likely came from a larger gift set from Marumo Mori Shouten's Shizuoka store, Chagama.
