Tea Review: Master's Choice (DoMatcha)

Master's Choice
DoMatcha
Type: Green
Origin: Japan
Product Description:  This is a uniquely special blend created by DoMatcha's own Tea Master, producing an exceptional matcha for exclusive tastes. Recommended for those familiar with the stronger tasting matcha served at Japanese Tea Ceremonies. Matcha connoisseurs will appreaciate the full-bodied, robust flavor of Master's Choice.

Temperature: 175° F
Tea Amount: 1 gram (1 teaspoon)
Water: 2 ounces (1/4 cup)

The matcha powder is vivid green with an aroma that is spring green, savory, nutty, buttery, and salty marine.

In a warmed bowl, the aroma becomes boldly green like fresh cut grass, marine, buttery and nutty, with a hint of unsweetened cocoa.

The whisked matcha produced an aroma that reminds me of green beans on the vine, green leaves, and grass. The taste is very green and astringent with notes of spring green salad vegetables and nuts.

The color of the powder and the whisked matcha is bright, the texture not too creamy, and the taste is wonderfully, aggressively green.  You truly are drinking the leaf with this matcha and its bold characteristics are ideal for tea ceremony or for long-time matcha enthusiasts who would appreciate the strength.  Eating a small sweet or wagashi shortly before drinking the matcha will complement the flavor and mitigate some of the astringency while not detracting from the bold flavor.  For those new to matcha enjoyment, a little goes a long way and I would recommend using only 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of matcha with 1/4 cup of water.
