Tea Review: Sakura Sencha with Sugared Sakura Leaves (Yunomi/Chasandai Tea Factory)

Sakura Sencha with Sugared Sakura Leaves
Yunomi/Chasandai Tea Factory (株式会社 茶三代一)
Type: Flavored Green
Origin: Japan, Shimane Prefecture
Product Description:
A blend of sencha, sugared Sakura (Japanese cherry blossom) leaves, dried Sakura blossom petals from tea factory Chasandai in Shimane Prefecture, Japan.
Temperature: 175° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 1 minute

The dry leaves have a savory and sweet aroma with notes of sakura (I was reminding of sakura mochi), and marine green.

The liquor is light green with a rich, buttery, and nutty green aroma and a hint of sweet sakura.  The taste is savory, smooth, nutty, and green with just a hint of sweetness and a sakura finish.

I was very pleased with how the sakura and sweetened sakura leaves didn't take over.  Rather than being perfumed and sugar-sweet, the flavor was like drinking a cup of good sencha after eating sakura mochi and the aroma could have easily been attributed to a passing breeze carrying the blossom scent.   The sakura notes deepened from just a hint to pleasantly light midway into the cup.  After the first infusion, this became more like a nice, unflavored sencha with mild astringency developing and sakura notes fading almost completely by the second and third infusions.

This tea was purchased by me.
