Tea Review: Sangzhi White Tea Brick (Xiangfeng Tea)

Sangzhi White Tea Brick/桑植白茶 (2017)
Xiangfeng Tea/湘丰茶业
Type: White
Origin: China, Hunan Province, Sangzhi
Product Description:  Not provided.

Temperature: 208° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 5 minutes

The dry leaves have a light aroma of sweet hay.

The golden amber liquor has a light fruity aroma with a sweet taste of fruit (I was reminded of pears), honey, a hint of flowers, and a long sweet finish.

For the purpose of this review, I prepared a partially broken up square (3 grams from a 4 gram square) which produced flavorful results when steeped at near-boiling temperatures for 5 minutes during the first infusion and 7 minutes for subsequent infusions.  Only half the leaves had opened up by the third infusion, so I would expect to be able to brew this several more times with good results.  Breaking up a full square to prepare gongfu-style (smaller brewing vessel using more leaf) will produce similar flavorful results in less time.  This sample was provided by representatives from Hunan Province at World Tea Expo and it doesn't look like Xiangfeng Tea has North American distribution, yet.  Hopefully, that will change because I would love to stock up on more of this tea.

This tea was provided as a free sample without guarantee of a review.
