Tea Review: China Fujian Zhangping Heavy Roasted Shui Xian Oolong Tea Cake (What-Cha)

China Fujian Zhangping Heavy Roasted Shui Xian Oolong Tea Cake
What-Cha
Type: Oolong
Origin: China, Fujian Province, Zhangping, Jiupengxi
Product Description:
A heavy roasted oolong cake which has been rested for 2 years to let the roast mellow, it has a lingering mineral taste with the roast in the background, reminiscent of a good Da Hong Pao
Temperature: 195°-208° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 3-5 minutes

The dry leaves have a savory, sweet, and roasted vegetable aroma.

The orange amber liquor has a heady aroma of roasted nuts and roasted vegetables.  The taste is rich with notes of roasted nuts and a long, sweet roasted chestnut finish.

This oolong was given to me some time ago and still has a lot to offer.  While it was pleasant with an initial steeping at 195F°, following the brewing recommendations on the package by using a higher water temperature and more leaf resulted in a delightfully rich and roasty tea throughout multiple infusions.

This tea was received as a gift from a third party.
