Tea Review: Kukicha Gold (Harbor Herbalist)

Kukicha Gold
Harbor Herbalist
Type: Flavored Green
Origin: Not Provided
Product Description:
A perfect tea to warm up on a cool day. Roasted kukicha is a luxuriant base for the warming spices in Kukicha Gold. Kukicha is a low caffeine tea enjoyed by kids and adults alike in Japan. Kukicha Gold is most popular in the fall and winter when temperatures drop and we crave spiced drinks.
Temperature: 208° F
Amount: 3 grams
Steeping Time: 5-7 minutes

The dry leaf blend includes green tea, cinnamon, cardamom, orange peel, cloves, allspice, sumac, codonopsis, and licorice.

The infusion is golden peach in color with an aroma of baking spices and roasted tea.  The taste is smooth, sweet, and spicy, reminding me of spiced cookies.

This blend reminded me of the flavors and aromas of the winter holidays, especially spiced cookies and cakes.  Following the directions on the packaging, the initial infusion was 5 minutes followed by 7 minute infusions with delicious results.  The first two infusions had the fullest flavor with a mellower third infusion that was still quite enjoyable.  While I used only 3 grams of leaf for the purpose of this review, I recommend using a heaping teaspoon to get the fullest flavor.  With no astringency and no risk of over-steeping, this is a great tea to reach for if you're distracted or a little absent-minded.

This tea was purchased by me.
